There have been many efforts to make the Flamingo the state bird of Florida, but the Mockingbird remains the state bird as of today. In 2023, many flamingos were blown into the state by the winds of hurricane Idalia. They are mainly "uncommon" visitors with small populations in the Everglades region and Florida Keys but are growing in population in the recent years.
